Luke 16:11-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 16
11
Therefore if you have not been faithful in the
use of
unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true
wealth
to you?
12
And if you have not been faithful in
the use of
that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?
13
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.'
14
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were ridiculing Him.
15
And He said to them, 'You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of people, but God knows your hearts; because that which is highly esteemed among people is detestable in the sight of God.
King James Version
Chapter 16
11
If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12
And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?
13
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
14
And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
15
And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 16
11
So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine?
12
And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own?
13
No servant can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
14
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing at him.
15
And he told them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God’s sight.
New Living Translation
Chapter 16
11
And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
12
And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?
13
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.'
14
The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.
15
Then he said to them, 'You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.
English Standard Version
Chapter 16
11
If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?
12
And if you have not been faithful in that which is another 's, who will give you that which is your own?
13
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
14
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.
15
And he said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
New International Version
Chapter 16
11
So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
12
And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
13
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
14
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
15
He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.
New King James Version
Chapter 16
11
Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true
riches?
12
And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?
13
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
14
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.
15
And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
