New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
25Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. 26And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be. 27And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ 28But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. 29But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you never gave me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; 30but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’King James Version
Chapter 15
25Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. 26And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. 27And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 29And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 30But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 15
25"Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he summoned one of the servants, questioning what these things meant. 27Your brother is here,' he told him, 'and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'
28"Then he became angry and didn't want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
29But he replied to his father, 'Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.
30But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.'

Chapter 15
25Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, 26and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27‘Your brother is back,’ he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.’
28The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him,
29but he replied, ‘All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.
30Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’
