Luke 15:7-18
New American Standard Bible
8Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?
9And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the coin which I had lost!’
10In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.'
11And He said, 'A man had two sons.
12The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that is coming to me.’ And so he divided his wealth between them.
13And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his estate in wild living.
14Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began doing without.
15So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
16And he longed to have his fill of the carob pods that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving him anything.
17But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired laborers have more than enough bread, but I am dying here from hunger!
18I will set out and go to my father, and will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight;
King James Version
8Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
9And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
10Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
11And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

8"Or what woman who has ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?
9When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’

11He also said: "A man had two sons.
12The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them.
13Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living.
14After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing.
15Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
16He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything.
17When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger!
18I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight.
New Living Translation
8Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?
9And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’
10In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.'
11To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: 'A man had two sons.
12The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.
13A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living.
14About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve.
15He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs.
16The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything.
