Luke 15:28-32
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
28
But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and
began
pleading with him.
29
But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and
yet
you never gave me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends;
30
but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’
31
And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32
But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and
has begun
to live, and
was
lost and has been found.’?'
King James Version
Chapter 15
28
And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32
It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 15
28
"Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
29
But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.
30
But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’
31
"‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.
32
But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’"
New Living Translation
Chapter 15
28
The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him,
29
but he replied, ‘All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.
30
Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’
31
His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours.
32
We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!’'
English Standard Version
Chapter 15
28
But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,
29
but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.
30
But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’
31
And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32
It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’"
