Luke 11:5-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
5
And He said to them, 'Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6
because a friend of mine has come to me from a journey and I have nothing to serve him’;
7
and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you
anything.
’
8
I tell you, even if he will not get up and give him
anything just
because he is his friend, yet because of his shamelessness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
King James Version
Chapter 11
5
And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
6
For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
7
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 11
5
He also said to them: "Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
6
because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’
7
Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children and I have gone to bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’
8
I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his friend’s shameless boldness, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
New Living Translation
Chapter 11
5
Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: 'Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him,
6
‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’
7
And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’
8
But I tell you this — though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.
English Standard Version
Chapter 11
5
And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6
for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;
7
and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’?
8
I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.
New International Version
Chapter 11
5
Then Jesus said to them, "Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread;
6
a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’
7
And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’
8
I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
New King James Version
Chapter 11
5
And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;
6
for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;
7
and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’?
8
I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.
