Chapter 4

2(although Jesus Himself was not baptizing; rather, His disciples were), 3He left Judea and went away again to Galilee. 4And He had to pass through Samaria. 5So He *came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; 6and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7A woman of Samaria *came to draw water. Jesus *said to her, 'Give Me a drink.' 8For His disciples had gone away to the city to buy food.

Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. "Give me a drink," Jesus said to her, 8because his disciples had gone into town to buy food.

4He had to go through Samaria on the way. 5Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, 'Please give me a drink.' 8He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.
