John 4:11-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
11
She *said to Him, 'Sir, You have no bucket and the well is deep; where then do You get
this
living water?
12
You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well and drank of it himself, and his sons and his cattle?'
13
Jesus answered and said to her, 'Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again;
14
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.'
15
The woman *said to Him, 'Sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty, nor come
all the way
here to draw
water.
'
King James Version
Chapter 4
11
The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15
The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4
11
"Sir," said the woman, "you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this ‘living water’?
12
You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock."
13
Jesus said, "Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again.
14
But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life."
15
"Sir," the woman said to him, "give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and come here to draw water."
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
11
But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,' she said, 'and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water?
12
And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?'
13
Jesus replied, 'Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again.
14
But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.'
15
Please, sir,' the woman said, 'give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 4
11
The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?
12
Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock."
13
Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,
14
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
15
The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water."
New International Version
Chapter 4
11
"Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
12
Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?"
13
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
15
The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."
New King James Version
Chapter 4
11
