John 13:12-21
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 13
12
Then, when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined
at the table
again, He said to them, 'Do you know what I have done for you?
13
You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’; and you are correct, for
so
I am.
14
So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15
For I gave you an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you.
16
Truly, truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor
is
one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.
17
If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
18
I am not speaking about all of you. I know
the ones
whom I have chosen; but
this is happening
so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.’
19
From now on I am telling you before
it
happens, so that when it does happen, you may believe that I am
He.
20
Truly, truly I say to you, the one who receives anyone I send, receives Me; and the one who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.'
21
When Jesus had said these things, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, 'Truly, truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.'
King James Version
Chapter 13
12
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you
13
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19
Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 13
12
When Jesus had washed their feet and put on his outer clothing, he reclined again and said to them, "Do you know what I have done for you?
13
You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are speaking rightly, since that is what I am.
14
So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.
16
"Truly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.
17
If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
18
"I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the Scripture must be fulfilled:
The one who eats my bread
has raised his heel against me.
19
I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am he.
20
Truly I tell you, whoever receives anyone I send receives me, and the one who receives me receives him who sent me."
21
When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in his spirit and testified, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me."
New Living Translation
Chapter 13
12
After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, 'Do you understand what I was doing?
13
You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am.
14
And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.
15
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.
16
I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.
17
Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.
18
I am not saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this fulfills the Scripture that says, ‘The one who eats my food has turned against me.’
19
I tell you this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I AM the Messiah.
20
I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.'
21
Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and he exclaimed, 'I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me!'
English Standard Version
Chapter 13
12
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, "Do you understand what I have done to you?
13
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.
14
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another 's feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.
16
Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18
I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’
19
I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he.
20
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."
21
After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me."
New International Version
Chapter 13
12
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them.
13
"You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.
14
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
15
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
16
Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17
Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
18
"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned against me.’
19
"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am.
20
Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."
21
After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me."
New King James Version
Chapter 13
12
So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
13
You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for
so
I am.
14
If I then,
your
Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
16
Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18
“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
19
Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am
He.
20
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
21
When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”
