Hebrews 7:17-19
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 7
17
For it is attested
of Him,
'YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER
ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.'
18
For, on the one hand, there is
the
nullification of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
19
(for the Law made nothing perfect); on the other hand,
there is the
introduction of a better hope, through which we come near to God.
King James Version
Chapter 7
17
For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
18
For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19
For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 7
17
For it has been testified:
You are a priest forever
according to the order of Melchizedek.
18
So the previous command is annulled because it was weak and unprofitable
19
(for the law perfected nothing), but a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
New Living Translation
Chapter 7
17
And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied,
'You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.'
18
Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless.
19
For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
English Standard Version
Chapter 7
17
For it is witnessed of him,
"You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek."
18
For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness
19
(for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
New International Version
Chapter 7
17
For it is declared:
"You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek."
18
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless
19
(for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
New King James Version
Chapter 7
17
For He testifies:
“You
are
a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
18
For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness,
19
for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand,
there is the
bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
