Hebrews 12:19-23
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
19
and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words, which
sound was such that
those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.
20
For they could not cope with the command, 'If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.'
21
And so terrible was the sight,
that
Moses said, 'I am terrified and trembling.'
22
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,
23
to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of
the
righteous made perfect,
King James Version
Chapter 12
19
And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20
For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21
And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22
But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
19
to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of words. Those who heard it begged that not another word be spoken to them,
20
for they could not bear what was commanded:
If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.
21
The appearance was so terrifying that Moses said,
I am trembling with fear.
22
Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels, a festive gathering,
23
to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to a Judge, who is God of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
19
For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking.
20
They staggered back under God’s command: 'If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.'
21
Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, 'I am terrified and trembling.'
22
No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering.
23
You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect.
English Standard Version
Chapter 12
19
and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them.
20
For they could not endure the order that was given, "If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned."
21
Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I tremble with fear."
22
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
23
and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
New International Version
Chapter 12
19
to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,
20
because they could not bear what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death."
21
The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am trembling with fear."
22
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
23
to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
New King James Version
Chapter 12

who are
