16But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. 17By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.Christian Standard Bible
17By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He received the promises and yet he was offering his one and only son,
18the one to whom it had been said, Your offspring will be traced through Isaac.
19He considered God to be able even to raise someone from the dead; therefore, he received him back, figuratively speaking.
New Living Translation
17It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac,
18even though God had told him, 'Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.'
19Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.

19Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
