Genesis 42:22-26
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 42
22
Reuben answered them, saying, 'Did I not tell you, ‘Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now
justice for
his blood is required.'
23
They did not know, however, that Joseph understood, for there was an interpreter between them.
24
Then he turned away from them and wept. But when he returned to them and spoke to them, he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.
25
Then Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, but
also
to return every man’s money in his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. And that is what was done for them.
26
So they loaded their donkeys with their grain and departed from there.
King James Version
Chapter 42
22
And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
23
And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.
24
And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.
25
Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man's money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.
26
And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 42
22
But Reuben replied: "Didn’t I tell you not to harm the boy? But you wouldn’t listen. Now we must account for his blood!"
23
They did not realize that Joseph understood them, since there was an interpreter between them.
24
He turned away from them and wept. When he turned back and spoke to them, he took Simeon from them and had him bound before their eyes.
25
Joseph then gave orders to fill their containers with grain, return each man’s silver to his sack, and give them provisions for their journey. This order was carried out.
26
They loaded the grain on their donkeys and left there.
New Living Translation
Chapter 42
22
Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy?' Reuben asked. 'But you wouldn’t listen. And now we have to answer for his blood!'
23
Of course, they didn’t know that Joseph understood them, for he had been speaking to them through an interpreter.
24
Now he turned away from them and began to weep. When he regained his composure, he spoke to them again. Then he chose Simeon from among them and had him tied up right before their eyes.
25
Joseph then ordered his servants to fill the men’s sacks with grain, but he also gave secret instructions to return each brother’s payment at the top of his sack. He also gave them supplies for their journey home.
26
So the brothers loaded their donkeys with the grain and headed for home.
English Standard Version

Then he turned away from them and wept. And he returned to them and spoke to them. And he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.
25
And Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, and to replace every man 's money in his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. This was done for them.
26
Then they loaded their donkeys with their grain and departed.
