Genesis 4:2-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
2
And again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a cultivator of the ground.
3
So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the
Lord
from the fruit of the ground.
4
Abel, on his part also brought
an offering,
from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And the
Lord
had regard for Abel and his offering;
5
but for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his face was gloomy.
6
Then the
Lord
said to Cain, 'Why are you angry? And why is your face gloomy?
King James Version
Chapter 4
2
And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the
Lord
.
4
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the
Lord
had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6
And the
Lord
said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

Abel also brought a gift — the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The
Lord
accepted Abel and his gift,
5
but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.

Why are you so angry?' the
