Genesis 33:12-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 33
12
Then Esau said, 'Let’s journey on and go, and I will go ahead of you.'
13
But he said to him, 'My lord knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds that are nursing are a matter of concern to me. And if they are driven hard
just
one day, all the flocks will die.
14
Please let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will proceed at my leisure, at the pace of the cattle that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at Seir.'
15
Then Esau said, 'Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.' But he said, 'What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.'
King James Version
Chapter 33
12
And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
13
And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
14
Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
15
And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 33
12
Then Esau said, "Let’s move on, and I’ll go ahead of you."
13
Jacob replied, "My lord knows that the children are weak, and I have nursing flocks and herds. If they are driven hard for one day, the whole herd will die.
14
Let my lord go ahead of his servant. I will continue on slowly, at a pace suited to the livestock and the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."
15
Esau said, "Let me leave some of my people with you." But he replied, "Why do that? Please indulge me, my lord."
New Living Translation
Chapter 33
12
Well,' Esau said, 'let’s be going. I will lead the way.'
13
But Jacob replied, 'You can see, my lord, that some of the children are very young, and the flocks and herds have their young, too. If they are driven too hard, even for one day, all the animals could die.
14
Please, my lord, go ahead of your servant. We will follow slowly, at a pace that is comfortable for the livestock and the children. I will meet you at Seir.'
15
All right,' Esau said, 'but at least let me assign some of my men to guide and protect you.' Jacob responded, 'That’s not necessary. It’s enough that you’ve received me warmly, my lord!'
English Standard Version
Chapter 33
12
Then Esau said, "Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of you."
13
But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die.
14
Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."
15
So Esau said, "Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord."
New International Version
Chapter 33
12
Then Esau said, "Let us be on our way; I’ll accompany you."
13
But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.
14
So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."
15
Esau said, "Then let me leave some of my men with you." "But why do that?" Jacob asked. "Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."
New King James Version
Chapter 33
12
Then Esau said, “Let us take our journey; let us go, and I will go before you.”
13
But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children
are
weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing
are
with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die.
14
Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, are able to endure, until I come to my lord in Seir.”
15
And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you
some
of the people who
are
with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”
