Chapter 25
28Now Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for game; but Rebekah loved Jacob. 29When Jacob had cooked a stew one day, Esau came in from the field and he was exhausted; 30and Esau said to Jacob, 'Please let me have a mouthful of that red stuff there, for I am exhausted.' Therefore he was called Edom by name. 31But Jacob said, 'First sell me your birthright.' 32Esau said, 'Look, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?' 33And Jacob said, 'First swear to me'; so he swore an oath to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and got up and went on his way. So Esau despised his birthright.King James Version
29And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

29Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.
30And Esau said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!" (Therefore his name was called Edom. )
31Jacob said, "Sell me your birthright now."
32Esau said, "I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?"
33Jacob said, "Swear to me now." So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.
34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
