Exodus 16:2-4
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 16
2
But the whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3
The sons of Israel said to them, 'If only we had died by the
Lord
’S hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread until
we were
full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this entire assembly with hunger!'
4
Then the
Lord
said to Moses, 'Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, so that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.
King James Version
Chapter 16
2
And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the
Lord
in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4
Then said the
Lord
unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 16
2
The entire Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3
The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the
Lord
’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted. Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger!"
4
Then the
Lord
said to Moses, "I am going to rain bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. This way I will test them to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
New Living Translation
Chapter 16
2
There, too, the whole community of Israel complained about Moses and Aaron.
3
If only the
Lord
had killed us back in Egypt,' they moaned. 'There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.'
4
Then the
Lord
said to Moses, 'Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
