14Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to Arioch, the captain of the king’s bodyguard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon;
15he said to Arioch, the king’s officer, 'For what reason is the decree from the king so harsh?' Then Arioch informed Daniel of the matter.
16So Daniel went in and requested of the king that he would give him a grace period, so that he might declare the interpretation to the king.
17Then Daniel went to his house and informed his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, about the matter,
18so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his friends would not be killed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
20Daniel said, 'May the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.
21It is He who changes the times and the periods; He removes kings and appoints kings; He gives wisdom to wise men, And knowledge to people of understanding.
22It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.
25Then Arioch hurriedly brought Daniel into the king’s presence and spoke to him as follows: 'I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can make the interpretation known to the king!'
26The king said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, 'Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?'
27Daniel answered before the king and said, 'As for the secret about which the king has inquired, neither wise men, sorcerers, soothsayer priests, nor diviners are able to declare it to the king.
28However, there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days. This was your dream and the visions in your mind while on your bed.
29As for you, O king, while on your bed your thoughts turned to what would take place in the future; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will take place.
30But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living person, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.
31'You, O king, were watching and behold, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and of extraordinary radiance, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome.
32The head of that statue was made of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,
33its legs of iron, and its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
34You continued watching until a stone was broken off without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and crushed them.
35Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed to pieces all at the same time, and they were like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the entire earth.
36'This was the dream; and now we will tell its interpretation before the king.
37You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the honor;
38and wherever the sons of mankind live, or the animals of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has handed them over to you and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

14Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
15He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
16Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.
17Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
18That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
19Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
23I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
24Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
25Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
26The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
27Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
28But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
29As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
30But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
31Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
32This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
33His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
34Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
35Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
36This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
37Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

14Then Daniel responded with tact and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon.
15He asked Arioch, the king's officer, "Why is the decree from the king so harsh? " Then Arioch explained the situation to Daniel.
16So Daniel went and asked the king to give him some time, so that he could give the king the interpretation.
17Then Daniel went to his house and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah about the matter,
18urging them to ask the God of the heavens for mercy concerning this mystery, so Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of Babylon's wise men.
19The mystery was then revealed to Daniel in a vision at night, and Daniel praised the God of the heavens
20and declared: May the name of God be praised forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to him.
21He changes the times and seasons; he removes kings and establishes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.
22He reveals the deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with him.
23I offer thanks and praise to you, God of my ancestors, because you have given me wisdom and power. And now you have let me know what we asked of you, for you have let us know the king's mystery.
27Daniel answered the king, "No wise man, medium, magician, or diviner is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.
28But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will happen in the last days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay in bed were these:
29Your Majesty, while you were in your bed, thoughts came to your mind about what will happen in the future. The revealer of mysteries has let you know what will happen.
30As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but in order that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.
31"Your Majesty, as you were watching, suddenly a colossal statue appeared. That statue, tall and dazzling, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was terrifying.
32The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its stomach and thighs were bronze,
33its legs were iron, and its feet were partly iron and partly fired clay.
34As you were watching, a stone broke off without a hand touching it, struck the statue on its feet of iron and fired clay, and crushed them.
35Then the iron, the fired clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were shattered and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
36"This was the dream; now we will tell the king its interpretation.
37Your Majesty, you are king of kings. The God of the heavens has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.
38Wherever people live--or wild animals, or birds of the sky--he has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

Chapter 2
13And because of the king's decree, men were sent to find and kill Daniel and his friends.
14When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, came to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion.
15He asked Arioch, 'Why has the king issued such a harsh decree?' So Arioch told him all that had happened.
16Daniel went at once to see the king and requested more time to tell the king what the dream meant.
17Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened.
18He urged them to ask the God of heaven to show them his mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wise men of Babylon.
19That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven.
20He said, 'Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power.
21He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
22He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.
23I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.'
27Daniel replied, 'There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king's secret.
28But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed.
29'While Your Majesty was sleeping, you dreamed about coming events. He who reveals secrets has shown you what is going to happen.
30And it is not because I am wiser than anyone else that I know the secret of your dream, but because God wants you to understand what was in your heart.
31'In your vision, Your Majesty, you saw standing before you a huge, shining statue of a man. It was a frightening sight.
32The head of the statue was made of fine gold. Its chest and arms were silver, its belly and thighs were bronze,
33its legs were iron, and its feet were a combination of iron and baked clay.
34As you watched, a rock was cut from a mountain, but not by human hands. It struck the feet of iron and clay, smashing them to bits.
35The whole statue was crushed into small pieces of iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold. Then the wind blew them away without a trace, like chaff on a threshing floor. But the rock that knocked the statue down became a great mountain that covered the whole earth.
36'That was the dream. Now we will tell the king what it means.
37Your Majesty, you are the greatest of kings. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and honor.
38He has made you the ruler over all the inhabited world and has put even the wild animals and birds under your control. You are the head of gold.

13So the decree went out, and the wise men were about to be killed; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to kill them. 14Then Daniel replied with prudence and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon. 15He declared to Arioch, the king’s captain, “Why is the decree of the king so urgent?” Then Arioch made the matter known to Daniel. 16And Daniel went in and requested the king to appoint him a time, that he might show the interpretation to the king.
17Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,
18and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
19Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.
21He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;
22he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

39Another kingdom inferior to you shall arise after you, and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.

31Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue--an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance.

28Pero hay un Dios en el cielo que revela los misterios, y El ha dado a conocer al rey Nabucodonosor lo que sucederá al fin de los días. Tu sueño y las visiones que has tenido en tu cama eran éstos:
29A ti, oh rey, en tu cama te surgieron pensamientos sobre lo que habrá de suceder en el futuro, y el que revela los misterios te ha dado a conocer lo que sucederá.
30En cuanto a mí, me ha sido revelado este misterio, no porque yo tenga más sabiduría que cualquier otro viviente, sino con el fin de dar a conocer al rey la interpretación, y para que tú entiendas los pensamientos de tu corazón.

17Después volvió a su casa y les contó a sus amigos Ananías, Misael y Azarías cómo se presentaba la situación.
18Al mismo tiempo, les pidió que imploraran la misericordia del Dios del cielo en cuanto a ese sueño misterioso para que ni él ni sus amigos fueran ejecutados con el resto de los sabios babilonios.
20y dijo: «¡Alabado sea por siempre el nombre de Dios! Suyos son la sabiduría y el poder.
21Él cambia los tiempos y las épocas, pone y depone reyes. A los sabios da sabiduría, y a los inteligentes, discernimiento.
22Él revela lo profundo y lo escondido, y sabe lo que se oculta en las sombras. ¡En él habita la luz!
23A ti, Dios de mis padres, te alabo y te doy gracias. Me has dado sabiduría y poder, me has dado a conocer lo que te pedimos, ¡me has dado a conocer el sueño del rey!»
27A esto Daniel respondió: ?No hay ningún sabio ni hechicero, ni mago o adivino, que pueda explicarle a Su Majestad el misterio que le preocupa.
28Pero hay un Dios en el cielo que revela los misterios. Ese Dios le ha mostrado a usted lo que tendrá lugar en los días venideros. Estos son el sueño y las visiones que pasaron por la mente de Su Majestad mientras dormía:
29Allí, en su cama, Su Majestad dirigió sus pensamientos a las cosas por venir, y el que revela los misterios le mostró lo que está por suceder.
30Por lo que a mí toca, este misterio me ha sido revelado, no porque yo sea más sabio que el resto de la humanidad, sino para que Su Majestad llegue a conocer su interpretación y entienda lo que pasaba por su mente.
31»En su sueño Su Majestad veía una estatua enorme, de tamaño impresionante y de aspecto horrible.
32La cabeza de la estatua era de oro puro, el pecho y los brazos eran de plata, el vientre y los muslos eran de bronce,
33y las piernas eran de hierro, lo mismo que la mitad de los pies, en tanto que la otra mitad era de barro cocido.
34De pronto, y mientras Su Majestad contemplaba la estatua, una roca que nadie desprendió vino y golpeó los pies de hierro y barro de la estatua, y los hizo pedazos.
35Con ellos se hicieron añicos el hierro y el barro, junto con el bronce, la plata y el oro. La estatua se hizo polvo, como el que vuela en el verano cuando se trilla el trigo. El viento barrió con la estatua, y no quedó ni rastro de ella. En cambio, la roca que dio contra la estatua se convirtió en una montaña enorme que llenó toda la tierra.
36»Este fue el sueño que tuvo Su Majestad, y este es su significado:
37Su Majestad es rey entre los reyes; el Dios del cielo le ha dado el reino, el poder, la majestad y la gloria.
38Además, ha puesto en manos de Su Majestad a la humanidad entera, a las bestias del campo y a las aves del cielo. No importa dónde vivan, Dios ha hecho de Su Majestad el gobernante de todos ellos. ¡Su Majestad es la cabeza de oro!

13Y se publicó el edicto de que los sabios fueran llevados a la muerte; y buscaron a Daniel y a sus compañeros para matarlos. 14Entonces Daniel habló sabia y prudentemente a Arioc, capitán de la guardia del rey, que había salido para matar a los sabios de Babilonia. 15Habló y dijo a Arioc capitán del rey: ¿Cuál es la causa de que este edicto se publique de parte del rey tan apresuradamente? Entonces Arioc hizo saber a Daniel lo que había. 16Y Daniel entró y pidió al rey que le diese tiempo, y que él mostraría la interpretación al rey.
17Luego se fue Daniel a su casa e hizo saber lo que había a Ananías, Misael y Azarías, sus compañeros,
18para que pidiesen misericordias del Dios del cielo sobre este misterio, a fin de que Daniel y sus compañeros no pereciesen con los otros sabios de Babilonia.
19Entonces el secreto fue revelado a Daniel en visión de noche, por lo cual bendijo Daniel al Dios del cielo.
20Y Daniel habló y dijo: Sea bendito el nombre de Dios de siglos en siglos, porque suyos son el poder y la sabiduría.
21Él muda los tiempos y las edades; quita reyes, y pone reyes; da la sabiduría a los sabios, y la ciencia a los entendidos.
22Él revela lo profundo y lo escondido; conoce lo que está en tinieblas, y con él mora la luz.
23A ti, oh Dios de mis padres, te doy gracias y te alabo, porque me has dado sabiduría y fuerza, y ahora me has revelado lo que te pedimos; pues nos has dado a conocer el asunto del rey.
25Entonces Arioc llevó prontamente a Daniel ante el rey, y le dijo así: He hallado un varón de los deportados de Judá, el cual dará al rey la interpretación.
26Respondió el rey y dijo a Daniel, al cual llamaban Beltsasar: ¿Podrás tú hacerme conocer el sueño que vi, y su interpretación?
27Daniel respondió delante del rey, diciendo: El misterio que el rey demanda, ni sabios, ni astrólogos, ni magos ni adivinos lo pueden revelar al rey.
28Pero hay un Dios en los cielos, el cual revela los misterios, y él ha hecho saber al rey Nabucodonosor lo que ha de acontecer en los postreros días. He aquí tu sueño, y las visiones que has tenido en tu cama:
29Estando tú, oh rey, en tu cama, te vinieron pensamientos por saber lo que había de ser en lo por venir; y el que revela los misterios te mostró lo que ha de ser.
30Y a mí me ha sido revelado este misterio, no porque en mí haya más sabiduría que en todos los vivientes, sino para que se dé a conocer al rey la interpretación, y para que entiendas los pensamientos de tu corazón.
31Tú, oh rey, veías, y he aquí una gran imagen. Esta imagen, que era muy grande, y cuya gloria era muy sublime, estaba en pie delante de ti, y su aspecto era terrible.
32La cabeza de esta imagen era de oro fino; su pecho y sus brazos, de plata; su vientre y sus muslos, de bronce;
33sus piernas, de hierro; sus pies, en parte de hierro y en parte de barro cocido.
34Estabas mirando, hasta que una piedra fue cortada, no con mano, e hirió a la imagen en sus pies de hierro y de barro cocido, y los desmenuzó.
35Entonces fueron desmenuzados también el hierro, el barro cocido, el bronce, la plata y el oro, y fueron como tamo de las eras del verano, y se los llevó el viento sin que de ellos quedara rastro alguno. Mas la piedra que hirió a la imagen fue hecha un gran monte que llenó toda la tierra.
36Éste es el sueño; también la interpretación de él diremos en presencia del rey.
37Tú, oh rey, eres rey de reyes; porque el Dios del cielo te ha dado reino, poder, fuerza y majestad.
38Y dondequiera que habitan hijos de hombres, bestias del campo y aves del cielo, él los ha entregado en tu mano, y te ha dado el dominio sobre todo; tú eres aquella cabeza de oro.
39Y después de ti se levantará otro reino inferior al tuyo; y luego un tercer reino de bronce, el cual dominará sobre toda la tierra.
