Daniel 2:37-40
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
37
You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the honor;
38
and wherever the sons of mankind live,
or
the animals of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has handed
them
over to you and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.
39
And after you another kingdom will arise inferior to you, then another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth.
40
Then there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; just as iron smashes and crushes everything, so, like iron that crushes, it will smash and crush all these things.
King James Version
Chapter 2
37
Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38
And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 2
37
Your Majesty, you are king of kings. The God of the heavens has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.
38
Wherever people live—or wild animals, or birds of the sky—he has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.
39
"After you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours, and then another, a third kingdom, of bronze, which will rule the whole earth.
40
A fourth kingdom will be as strong as iron; for iron crushes and shatters everything, and like iron that smashes, it will crush and smash all the others.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
37
Your Majesty, you are the greatest of kings. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and honor.
38
He has made you the ruler over all the inhabited world and has put even the wild animals and birds under your control. You are the head of gold.
39
But after your kingdom comes to an end, another kingdom, inferior to yours, will rise to take your place. After that kingdom has fallen, yet a third kingdom, represented by bronze, will rise to rule the world.
40
Following that kingdom, there will be a fourth one, as strong as iron. That kingdom will smash and crush all previous empires, just as iron smashes and crushes everything it strikes.
English Standard Version
Chapter 2
37
You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the might, and the glory,
38
and into whose hand he has given, wherever they dwell, the children of man, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens, making you rule over them all — you are the head of gold.
39
Another kingdom inferior to you shall arise after you, and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
40
And there shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron, because iron breaks to pieces and shatters all things. And like iron that crushes, it shall break and crush all these.
New International Version
Chapter 2
37
Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory;
38
in your hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
39
"After you, another kingdom will arise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth.
40
Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron—for iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others.
New King James Version
Chapter 2
37
You, O king,
are
a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;
38
and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given
them
into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all— you
are
this head of gold.
39
But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
40
And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes,
that kingdom
will break in pieces and crush all the others.
