Daniel 1:12-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
12Please put your servants to the test for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then let our appearance be examined in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king’s choice food; and deal with your servants according to what you see.'
14So he listened to them in this matter, and put them to the test for ten days.
15And at the end of ten days their appearance seemed better, and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king’s choice food.
16So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.
King James Version
Chapter 1
12Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. 13Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 14So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. 15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat. 16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.Christian Standard Bible
