Daniel 1:11-21

Chapter 1
11But Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12'Please put your servants to the test for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then let our appearance be examined in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king’s choice food; and deal with your servants according to what you see.'
14So he listened to them in this matter, and put them to the test for ten days.
15And at the end of ten days their appearance seemed better, and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king’s choice food.
16So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.
18Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19And the king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; so they entered the king’s personal service.
20As for every matter of expertise and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the soothsayer priests and conjurers who were in all his realm.
21And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.

11Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. 13Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 14So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. 15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat. 16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.
20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
21And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.

11So Daniel said to the guard whom the chief eunuch had assigned to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12"Please test your servants for ten days. Let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then examine our appearance and the appearance of the young men who are eating the king's food, and deal with your servants based on what you see." 14He agreed with them about this and tested them for ten days. 15At the end of ten days they looked better and healthier than all the young men who were eating the king's food. 16So the guard continued to remove their food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables.
17God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. Daniel also understood visions and dreams of every kind.
18At the end of the time that the king had said to present them, the chief eunuch presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.
19The king interviewed them, and among all of them, no one was found equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. So they began to attend the king.
20In every matter of wisdom and understanding that the king consulted them about, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and mediums in his entire kingdom.
21Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.

11Daniel spoke with the attendant who had been appointed by the chief of staff to look after Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 12'Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,' Daniel said. 13'At the end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men who are eating the king's food. Then make your decision in light of what you see.' 14The attendant agreed to Daniel's suggestion and tested them for ten days.
15At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king.
16So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others.
18When the training period ordered by the king was completed, the chief of staff brought all the young men to King Nebuchadnezzar.
19The king talked with them, and no one impressed him as much as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. So they entered the royal service.
20Whenever the king consulted them in any matter requiring wisdom and balanced judgment, he found them ten times more capable than any of the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.

11El jefe de oficiales le ordenó a un guardia atender a Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías. Por su parte, Daniel habló con ese guardia y le dijo: 12«Por favor, haz con tus siervos una prueba de diez días. Danos de comer solo verduras, y de beber solo agua. 13Pasado ese tiempo, compara nuestro semblante con el de los jóvenes que se alimentan con la comida real, y procede de acuerdo con lo que veas en nosotros».
14El guardia aceptó la propuesta, y los sometió a una prueba de diez días.
15Al cumplirse el plazo, estos jóvenes se veían más sanos y mejor alimentados que cualquiera de los que participaban de la comida real.
16Así que el guardia les retiró la comida y el vino del rey, y en su lugar siguió alimentándolos con verduras.
18Cumplido el plazo fijado por el rey Nabucodonosor, y conforme a sus instrucciones, el jefe de oficiales los llevó ante su presencia.
19Luego de hablar el rey con Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías, no encontró a nadie que los igualara, de modo que los cuatro entraron a su servicio.
20El rey los interrogó, y en todos los temas que requerían de sabiduría y discernimiento los halló diez veces más inteligentes que todos los magos y hechiceros de su reino.
21Fue así como Daniel se quedó en Babilonia hasta el primer año del rey Ciro.

11Entonces dijo Daniel a Melsar, que estaba puesto por el jefe de los eunucos sobre Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías: 12Te ruego que hagas la prueba con tus siervos por diez días, y nos den legumbres a comer, y agua a beber. 13Compara luego nuestros rostros con los rostros de los muchachos que comen de la ración de la comida del rey, y haz después con tus siervos según veas. 14Consintió, pues, con ellos en esto, y probó con ellos diez días. 15Y al cabo de los diez días pareció el rostro de ellos mejor y más robusto que el de los otros muchachos que comían de la porción de la comida del rey. 16Así, pues, Melsar se llevaba la porción de la comida de ellos y el vino que habían de beber, y les daba legumbres.
17A estos cuatro muchachos Dios les dio conocimiento e inteligencia en todas las letras y ciencias; y Daniel tuvo entendimiento en toda visión y sueños.
18Pasados, pues, los días al fin de los cuales había dicho el rey que los trajesen, el jefe de los eunucos los trajo delante de Nabucodonosor.
