Acts 7:45-60
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 7
45Our fathers in turn received it, and they also brought it in with Joshua upon dispossessing the nations that God drove out from our fathers, until the time of David. 46David found favor in God’s sight, and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob. 47But it was Solomon who built a house for Him. 48However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:
49‘HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND THE EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?’ says the Lord, ‘OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REST?
50WAS IT NOT MY HAND THAT MADE ALL THESE THINGS?’
51You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.
52Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him;
53you who received the Law as ordained by angels, and yet did not keep it.'
54Now when they heard this, they were infuriated, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.
55But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;
56and he said, 'Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.'
57But they shouted with loud voices, and covered their ears and rushed at him with one mind.
58When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, 'Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!'
60Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, 'Lord, do not hold this sin against them!' Having said this, he fell asleep.

Chapter 7
45Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; 46Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 47But Solomon built him an house. 48Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, 49Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? 50Hath not my hand made all these things?
51Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
52Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
54When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
55But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
56And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
57Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
58And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
59And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Chapter 7
45Our ancestors in turn received it and with Joshua brought it in when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before them, until the days of David. 46He found favor in God's sight and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. 47It was Solomon, rather, who built him a house, 48but the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:
49Heaven is my throne, and the earth my footstool. What sort of house will you build for me?says the Lord,or what will be my resting place?
50Did not my hand make all these things?
51"You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.
52Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.
53You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it."
54When they heard these things, they were enraged and gnashed their teeth at him.
55Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56He said, "Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God! "
57They yelled at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him.
58They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. And the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59While they were stoning Stephen, he called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit! "
60He knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them! " And after saying this, he fell asleep.
New Living Translation
46David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob.
47But it was Solomon who actually built it.
48However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,
49‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that?’ asks the Lord. ‘Could you build me such a resting place?
50Didn’t my hands make both heaven and earth?’
51You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!
52Name one prophet your ancestors didn’t persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One — the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered.
53You deliberately disobeyed God’s law, even though you received it from the hands of angels.'
54The Jewish leaders were infuriated by Stephen’s accusation, and they shook their fists at him in rage.
55But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
56And he told them, 'Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand!'

Chapter 7
45After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David, 46who enjoyed God's favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. 47But it was Solomon who built a house for him.
49'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be?
50Has not my hand made all these things?'
51You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!
52Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him--
53you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.'
54When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.
55But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56Look,' he said, 'I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.'
