And when he saw one
of them
being treated unjustly, he defended and took vengeance for the oppressed man by

striking the Egyptian.

And he thought that his brothers understood that God was granting them deliverance through him; but they did not understand.

, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

When he saw one of them being mistreated, he came to his rescue and avenged the oppressed man by striking down the Egyptian.

He assumed his people would understand that God would give them deliverance through him, but they did not understand.
New Living Translation

He saw an Egyptian mistreating an Israelite. So Moses came to the man’s defense and avenged him, killing the Egyptian.

Moses assumed his fellow Israelites would realize that God had sent him to rescue them, but they didn’t.
