Acts 7:44-50
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 7
44
Our fathers had the tabernacle of testimony in the wilderness, just as He who spoke to Moses directed
him
to make it according to the pattern which he had seen.
45
Our fathers in turn received it, and they also brought it in with Joshua upon dispossessing the nations that God drove out from our fathers, until the time of David.
46
David found favor in God’s sight, and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.
47
But it was Solomon who built a house for Him.
48
However, the Most High does not dwell in
houses
made by
human
hands; as the prophet says:
49
‘HEAVEN IS MY THRONE,
AND THE EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET;
WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?’ says the Lord,
‘OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REST?
50
WAS IT NOT MY HAND THAT MADE ALL THESE THINGS?’
King James Version
Chapter 7
44
Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.
45
Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
46
Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
47
But Solomon built him an house.
48
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
49
Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
50
Hath not my hand made all these things?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 7
44
"Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern he had seen.
45
Our ancestors in turn received it and with Joshua brought it in when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before them, until the days of David.
46
He found favor in God’s sight and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
47
It was Solomon, rather, who built him a house,
48
but the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:
49
Heaven is my throne,
and the earth my footstool.
What sort of house will you build for me?
says the Lord,
or what will be my resting place?
50
Did not my hand make all these things?
New Living Translation
Chapter 7
44
Our ancestors carried the Tabernacle with them through the wilderness. It was constructed according to the plan God had shown to Moses.
45
Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.
46
David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob.
47
But it was Solomon who actually built it.
48
However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,
49
‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
Could you build me a temple as good as that?’
asks the
Lord
.
‘Could you build me such a resting place?
50
Didn’t my hands make both heaven and earth?’
English Standard Version
Chapter 7
44
"Our fathers had the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen.
45
Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David,
46
who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
47
But it was Solomon who built a house for him.
48
Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,
49
"‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,
or what is the place of my rest?
50
Did not my hand make all these things?’
New International Version
Chapter 7
44
"Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the covenant law with them in the wilderness. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen.
45
After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David,
46
who enjoyed God’s favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
47
But it was Solomon who built a house for him.
48
"However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
49
" ‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me?
says the Lord.
Or where will my resting place be?
50
Has not my hand made all these things?’
New King James Version
Chapter 7
44
“Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen,
45
which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David,
46
who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob.
47
But Solomon built Him a house.
48
“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:
49
‘Heaven
is
My throne,
And earth
is
My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the
Lord
,
Or what
is
the place of My rest?
50
Has My hand not made all these things?’
