Acts 19:1-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
Now it happened that while Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples.
2
He said to them, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?' And they
said
to him, 'On the contrary, we have not even heard if there is a Holy Spirit.'
3
And he said, 'Into what then were you baptized?' And they said, 'Into John’s baptism.'
4
Paul said, 'John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.'
5
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6
And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they
began
speaking with tongues and prophesying.
7
There were about twelve men in all.
King James Version
Chapter 19
1
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7
And all the men were about twelve.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples
2
and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" "No," they told him, "we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
3
"Into what then were you baptized?" he asked them. "Into John’s baptism," they replied.
4
Paul said, "John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus."
5
When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
6
And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in other tongues and to prophesy.
7
Now there were about twelve men in all.
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
1
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers.
2
Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?' he asked them. 'No,' they replied, 'we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.'
3
Then what baptism did you experience?' he asked. And they replied, 'The baptism of John.'
4
Paul said, 'John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.'
5
As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6
Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.
7
There were about twelve men in all.
