1 Kings 11:12-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
12However, I will not do it in your days, only for the sake of your father David; but I will tear it away from the hand of your son. 13Yet I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.'
14Then the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the royal line in Edom.
15For it came about, when David was in Edom and Joab the commander of the army had gone up to bury those killed in battle, and had struck and killed every male in Edom
16(for Joab and all Israel stayed there for six months, until he had eliminated every male in Edom),
King James Version
Chapter 11
12Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. 13Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.
14And the LORD stirred up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.
15For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom;
16(For six months did Joab remain there with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom:)

Chapter 11
12However, I will not do it during your lifetime for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of your son's hand. 13Yet I will not tear the entire kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem that I chose."
14So the Lord raised up Hadad the Edomite as an enemy against Solomon. He was of the royal family in Edom.
15Earlier, when David was in Edom, Joab, the commander of the army, had gone to bury the dead and had struck down every male in Edom.
16For Joab and all Israel had remained there six months, until he had killed every male in Edom.
New Living Translation
Chapter 11
12But for the sake of your father, David, I will not do this while you are still alive. I will take the kingdom away from your son. 13And even so, I will not take away the entire kingdom; I will let him be king of one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, my chosen city.'
14Then the Lord raised up Hadad the Edomite, a member of Edom’s royal family, to be Solomon’s adversary.
15Years before, David had defeated Edom. Joab, his army commander, had stayed to bury some of the Israelite soldiers who had died in battle. While there, they killed every male in Edom.
16Joab and the army of Israel had stayed there for six months, killing them.
English Standard Version
Chapter 11
12Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen.”
14And the LORD raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the royal house in Edom.
15For when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he struck down every male in Edom
16(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom).
New International Version
Chapter 11
12Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.'
14Then the LORD raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.
15Earlier when David was fighting with Edom, Joab the commander of the army, who had gone up to bury the dead, had struck down all the men in Edom.
16Joab and all the Israelites stayed there for six months, until they had destroyed all the men in Edom.
New King James Version
Chapter 11
12Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.”
14Now the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was a descendant of the king in Edom.
15For it happened, when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army had gone up to bury the slain, after he had killed every male in Edom
16(because for six months Joab remained there with all Israel, until he had cut down every male in Edom),
