1 Kings 11:10-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
10
and had commanded him regarding this thing, that he was not to follow other gods; but he did not comply with what the
Lord
had commanded.
11
So the
Lord
said to Solomon, 'Since you have done this, and you have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will certainly tear the kingdom away from you, and will give it to your servant.
12
However, I will not do it in your days,
only
for the sake of your father David;
but
I will tear it away from the hand of your son.
13
Yet I will not tear away all the kingdom,
but
I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.'
King James Version
Chapter 11
10
And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the
Lord
commanded.
11
Wherefore the
Lord
said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
12
Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.
13
Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 11
10
He had commanded him about this, so that he would not follow other gods, but Solomon did not do what the
Lord
had commanded.
11
Then the
Lord
said to Solomon, "Since you have done this and did not keep my covenant and my statutes, which I commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
12
However, I will not do it during your lifetime for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of your son’s hand.
13
Yet I will not tear the entire kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem that I chose."
New Living Translation
Chapter 11
10
He had warned Solomon specifically about worshiping other gods, but Solomon did not listen to the
Lord
’s command.
11
So now the
Lord
said to him, 'Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my decrees, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.
12
But for the sake of your father, David, I will not do this while you are still alive. I will take the kingdom away from your son.
13
And even so, I will not take away the entire kingdom; I will let him be king of one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, my chosen city.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 11
10
and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the
Lord
commanded.
11
Therefore the
Lord
said to Solomon, "Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.
12
Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13
However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen."
New International Version
Chapter 11
10
Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the
Lord
’s command.
11
So the
Lord
said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.
12
Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13
Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen."
New King James Version
Chapter 11
10
and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the
Lord
had commanded.
11
Therefore the
Lord
said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
12
Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13
However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.”
