1 Kings 1:49-53
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
49
Then all the guests of Adonijah trembled and got up, and each went on his way.
50
Adonijah also was afraid of Solomon, and he got up, and went, and took hold of the horns of the altar.
51
Now it was reported to Solomon, saying, 'Behold, Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon, for behold, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘May King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’?'
52
And Solomon said, 'If he is a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground; but if wickedness is found in him, he will die.'
53
So King Solomon sent
men,
and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and prostrated himself before King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, 'Go to your house.'
King James Version
Chapter 1
49
And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
50
And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
51
And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
52
And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.
53
So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
Christian Standard Bible

50
Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he got up and went to take hold of the horns of the altar.
51
It was reported to Solomon: "Look, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’"
52
Then Solomon said, "If he is a man of character, not a single hair of his will fall to the ground, but if evil is found in him, he dies."
53
So King Solomon sent for him, and they took him down from the altar. He came and paid homage to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, "Go to your home."
New Living Translation

49
Then all of Adonijah’s guests jumped up in panic from the banquet table and quickly scattered.
50
Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he rushed to the sacred tent and grabbed on to the horns of the altar.
51
Word soon reached Solomon that Adonijah had seized the horns of the altar in fear, and that he was pleading, 'Let King Solomon swear today that he will not kill me!'
52
Solomon replied, 'If he proves himself to be loyal, not a hair on his head will be touched. But if he makes trouble, he will die.'
53
So King Solomon summoned Adonijah, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed respectfully before King Solomon, who dismissed him, saying, 'Go on home.'
