1 Corinthians 14:28-36
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
28but if there is no interpreter, he is to keep silent in church; and have him speak to himself and to God. 29Have two or three prophets speak, and have the others pass judgment. 30But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, then the first one is to keep silent. 31For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; 32and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; 33for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
34the women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.
35If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.
36Or was it from you that the word of God first went out? Or has it come to you only?
King James Version
Chapter 14
28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 14
28But if there is no interpreter, that person is to keep silent in the church and speak to himself and God. 29Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should evaluate. 30But if something has been revealed to another person sitting there, the first prophet should be silent. 31For you can all prophesy one by one, so that everyone may learn and everyone may be encouraged. 32And the prophets' spirits are subject to the prophets,
33since God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
34the women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but are to submit themselves, as the law also says.
35If they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home, since it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
36Or did the word of God originate from you, or did it come to you only?
New Living Translation
29Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.
30But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.
31In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.
32Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.
33For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.
English Standard Version
Chapter 14
28But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. 29Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. 31For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, 32and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. 33For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,New International Version
29Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.
30And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop.
31For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.
32The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
33For God is not a God of disorder but of peace--as in all the congregations of the Lord's people.
