1 Corinthians 10:24-29
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 10
24No one is to seek his own advantage, but rather that of his neighbor. 25Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions, for the sake of conscience; 26FOR THE EARTH IS THE Lord’S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS. 27If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions, for the sake of conscience. 28But if anyone says to you, 'This is meat sacrificed to idols,' do not eat it, for the sake of that one who informed you and for the sake of conscience; 29Now by 'conscience' I do not mean your own, but the other person’s; for why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience?King James Version
Chapter 10
24Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. 25Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake: 26For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof. 27If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. 28But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof: 29Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?Christian Standard Bible
25Eat everything that is sold in the meat market, without raising questions for the sake of conscience,
26since the earth is the Lord's, and all that is in it.
27If any of the unbelievers invites you over and you want to go, eat everything that is set before you, without raising questions for the sake of conscience.
28But if someone says to you, "This is food from a sacrifice," do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience.
29I do not mean your own conscience, but the other person's. For why is my freedom judged by another person's conscience?
New Living Translation
25So you may eat any meat that is sold in the marketplace without raising questions of conscience.
26For 'the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.'
27If someone who isn’t a believer asks you home for dinner, accept the invitation if you want to. Eat whatever is offered to you without raising questions of conscience.
28(But suppose someone tells you, 'This meat was offered to an idol.' Don’t eat it, out of consideration for the conscience of the one who told you.
29It might not be a matter of conscience for you, but it is for the other person.) For why should my freedom be limited by what someone else thinks?
English Standard Version
Chapter 10
24Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” 27If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— 29I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience?New International Version
25Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,
26for, 'The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.'
27If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.
28But if someone says to you, 'This has been offered in sacrifice,' then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience.
29I am referring to the other person's conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another's conscience?
New King James Version
25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake;
26for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”
27If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake.
28But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”
29“Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?
