New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
3And some of the scribes said to themselves, 'This man is blaspheming!' 4And Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, 'Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? 5For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins'—then He *said to the paralyzed man, 'Get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.' 7And he got up and went home. 8But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.King James Version
Chapter 9
3And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. 4And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts 5For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? 6But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. 7And he arose, and departed to his house. 8But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
9And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
10And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
Christian Standard Bible
4Perceiving their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why are you thinking evil things in your hearts?
5For which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
6But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" —then he told the paralytic, "Get up, take your stretcher, and go home."
7So he got up and went home.
8When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and gave glory to God, who had given such authority to men.
New Living Translation
4Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, 'Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?
5Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’?
6So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.' Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 'Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!'
English Standard Version
