Chapter 13
20The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately he falls away. 22And the one sown with seed among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23But the one sown with seed on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.'
24Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and left.
26And when the wheat sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also became evident.
27And the slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’

24He presented another parable to them: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25But while people were sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and left.
26When the plants sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared.
27The landowner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’

20The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 21But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 22The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. 23The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!'English Standard Version
