Matthew 13:2-9
New American Standard Bible
3And He told them many things in parables, saying, 'Behold, the sower went out to sow;
4and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.
5Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and they sprang up immediately, because they had no depth of soil.
6But after the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.
8But others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.
9The one who has ears, let him hear.'
King James Version
Chapter 13
2And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.Christian Standard Bible
3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "Consider the sower who went out to sow.
4As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
5Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly since the soil wasn’t deep.
6But when the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.
7Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it.
8Still other seed fell on good ground and produced fruit: some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times what was sown.
9Let anyone who has ears listen."
New Living Translation
3He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: 'Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds.
4As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them.
5Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow.
6But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died.
7Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants.
8Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!
9Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.'
