Chapter 13
1On that day Jesus had gone out of the house and was sitting by the sea. 2And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach.
3And He told them many things in parables, saying, 'Behold, the sower went out to sow;
4and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.
5Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and they sprang up immediately, because they had no depth of soil.
6But after the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.
8But others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.
9The one who has ears, let him hear.'
10And the disciples came up and said to Him, 'Why do You speak to them in parables?'
11And Jesus answered them, 'To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.
12For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

1The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

4As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
5Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly since the soil wasn’t deep.
6But when the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.
7Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it.
8Still other seed fell on good ground and produced fruit: some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times what was sown.
9Let anyone who has ears listen."

Chapter 13
1Later that same day Jesus left the house and sat beside the lake. 2A large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat there and taught as the people stood on the shore.
3He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: 'Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds.
4As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them.
5Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow.
6But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died.
7Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants.
8Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!
9Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.'
11He replied, 'You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.
12To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.
