Malachi 3:1-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
1
Behold, I am sending My messenger, and he will clear a way before Me. And the Lord, whom you are seeking, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,' says the
Lord
of armies.
2
But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderer’s soap.
3
And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the
Lord
offerings in righteousness.
4
Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the
Lord
as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5
Then I will come near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, those who oppress the wage earner in his wages
or
the widow or the orphan, and those who turn away the stranger
from justice
and do not fear Me,' says the
Lord
of armies.
6
For I, the
Lord
, do not change; therefore you, the sons of Jacob, have not come to an end.
7
From the days of your fathers you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept
them.
Return to Me, and I will return to you,' says the
Lord
of armies. 'But you say, ‘How shall we return?’
King James Version
Chapter 3
1
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the
Lord
of hosts.
2
But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
3
And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the
Lord
an offering in righteousness.
4
Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the
Lord
, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the
Lord
of hosts.
6
For I am the
Lord
, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
7
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the
Lord
of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 3
1
"See, I am going to send my messenger, and he will clear the way before me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to his temple, the Messenger of the covenant you delight in—see, he is coming," says the
Lord
of Armies.
2
But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will be able to stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire and like launderer’s bleach.
3
He will be like a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will present offerings to the
Lord
in righteousness.
4
And the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the
Lord
as in days of old and years gone by.
5
"I will come to you in judgment, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless; and against those who deny justice to the resident alien. They do not fear me," says the
Lord
of Armies.
6
"Because I, the
Lord
, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.
7
"Since the days of your fathers, you have turned from my statutes; you have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the
Lord
of Armies. Yet you ask, "How can we return?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
1
Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,' says the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies.
2
But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.
3
He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the
Lord
.
4
Then once more the
Lord
will accept the offerings brought to him by the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as he did in the past.
5
At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,' says the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies.
6
I am the
Lord
, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.
7
Ever since the days of your ancestors, you have scorned my decrees and failed to obey them. Now return to me, and I will return to you,' says the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies. 'But you ask, ‘How can we return when we have never gone away?’

Almighty.
