Malachi 1:6-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
6
?‘A son honors
his
father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?’ says the
Lord
of armies to you, the priests who despise My name! But you say, ‘How have we despised Your name?’
7
You are
presenting defiled food upon My altar. But you say, ‘How have we defiled You?’ In that you say, ‘The table of the
Lord
is to be despised.’
8
And when you present a blind
animal
for sacrifice, is it not evil? Or when you present a lame or sick
animal,
is it not evil? So offer it to your governor! Would he be pleased with you, or would he receive you kindly?' says the
Lord
of armies.
9
But now, do indeed plead for God’s favor, so that He will be gracious to us. With such an offering on your part, will He receive any of you kindly?' says the
Lord
of armies.
10
If only there were one among you who would shut the gates, so that you would not kindle
fire on
My altar for nothing! I am not pleased with you,' says the
Lord
of armies, 'nor will I accept an offering from your hand.
King James Version
Chapter 1
6
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the
Lord
of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
7
Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the
Lord
is contemptible.
8
And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the
Lord
of hosts.
9
And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the
Lord
of hosts.
10
Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the
Lord
of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
6
"A son honors his father, and a servant his master. But if I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is your fear of me? says the
Lord
of Armies to you priests, who despise my name." Yet you ask: "How have we despised your name?"
7
"By presenting defiled food on my altar." "How have we defiled you?" you ask. When you say: "The
Lord
’s table is contemptible."
8
"When you present a blind animal for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present a lame or sick animal, is it not wrong? Bring it to your governor! Would he be pleased with you or show you favor?" asks the
Lord
of Armies.
9
"And now plead for God’s favor. Will he be gracious to us? Since this has come from your hands, will he show any of you favor?" asks the
Lord
of Armies.
10
"I wish one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would no longer kindle a useless fire on my altar! I am not pleased with you," says the
Lord
of Armies, "and I will accept no offering from your hands.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
6
The
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests: 'A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name! 'But you ask, ‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’
7
You have shown contempt by offering defiled sacrifices on my altar. 'Then you ask, ‘How have we defiled the sacrifices? ’ 'You defile them by saying the altar of the
Lord
deserves no respect.
8
When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn’t that wrong? And isn’t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased? Try giving gifts like that to your governor, and see how pleased he is!' says the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies.
9
Go ahead, beg God to be merciful to you! But when you bring that kind of offering, why should he show you any favor at all?' asks the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies.
10
How I wish one of you would shut the Temple doors so that these worthless sacrifices could not be offered! I am not pleased with you,' says the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies, 'and I will not accept your offerings.

8
When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that not evil? Present that to your governor; will he accept you or show you favor? says the

of hosts.
9
And now entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand, will he show favor to any of you? says the
