Hebrews 2:13-16
New American Standard Bible
14Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
15and free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
16For clearly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendants of Abraham.
King James Version
14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Christian Standard Bible
14Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death--that is, the devil--
15and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
16For it is clear that he does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham's offspring.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
13He also said, 'I will put my trust in him,' that is, 'I and the children God has given me.'
14Because God’s children are human beings — made of flesh and blood — the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
15Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
English Standard Version
Chapter 2
13And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”
14Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
15and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
16For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.
New International Version
14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--
15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.
New King James Version
14Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.
