Genesis 47:25-28
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 47
25
So they said, 'You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.'
26
Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt,
valid
to this day, that Pharaoh was to have the fifth; only the land of the priests did not become Pharaoh’s.
27
Now Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in Goshen, and they acquired property in it and were fruitful and became very numerous.
28
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt for seventeen years; so the length of Jacob’s life was 147 years.
King James Version
Chapter 47
25
And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.
26
And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.
27
And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
28
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 47
25
"You have saved our lives," they said. "We have found favor with our lord and will be Pharaoh’s slaves."
26
So Joseph made it a law, still in effect today in the land of Egypt, that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. Only the priests’ land does not belong to Pharaoh.
27
Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the region of Goshen. They acquired property in it and became fruitful and very numerous.
28
Now Jacob lived in the land of Egypt 17 years, and his life span was 147 years.
New Living Translation
Chapter 47
25
You have saved our lives!' they exclaimed. 'May it please you, my lord, to let us be Pharaoh’s servants.'
26
Joseph then issued a decree still in effect in the land of Egypt, that Pharaoh should receive one-fifth of all the crops grown on his land. Only the land belonging to the priests was not given to Pharaoh.
27
Meanwhile, the people of Israel settled in the region of Goshen in Egypt. There they acquired property, and they were fruitful, and their population grew rapidly.
28
Jacob lived for seventeen years after his arrival in Egypt, so he lived 147 years in all.
English Standard Version
Chapter 47
25
And they said, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh."
26
So Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt, and it stands to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; the land of the priests alone did not become Pharaoh 's.
27
Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.
28
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were 147 years.
New International Version
Chapter 47
25
"You have saved our lives," they said. "May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be in bondage to Pharaoh."
26
So Joseph established it as a law concerning land in Egypt—still in force today—that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. It was only the land of the priests that did not become Pharaoh’s.
27
Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.
28
Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.
