Chapter 40
4And the captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he took care of them; and they were in confinement for some time. 5Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation. 6When Joseph came to them in the morning and saw them, behold, they were dejected. 7So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, 'Why are your faces so sad today?' 8And they said to him, 'We have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it.' Then Joseph said to them, 'Do interpretations not belong to God? Tell it to me, please.'
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, saying to him, 'In my dream, behold, there was a vine in front of me;
10and on the vine were three branches. And as it was budding, its blossoms came out, and its clusters produced ripe grapes.
11Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.'
12Then Joseph said to him, 'This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;
13within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand as in your former practice when you were his cupbearer.
14Only keep me in mind when it goes well for you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.
15For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon.'
16When the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, he said to Joseph, 'I also saw in my dream, and behold, there were three baskets of white bread on my head;
17and in the top basket there were some of all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.'

5And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
7And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
8And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
12And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

5The king of Egypt's cupbearer and baker, who were confined in the prison, each had a dream. Both had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked distraught.
7So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were in custody with him in his master's house, "Why do you look so sad today? "
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph: "In my dream there was a vine in front of me.
10On the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms came out and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand."
12"This is its interpretation," Joseph said to him. "The three branches are three days.
13In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand the way you used to when you were his cupbearer.
14But when all goes well for you, remember that I was with you. Please show kindness to me by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.
15For I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should put me in the dungeon."

5While they were in prison, Pharaoh’s cup-bearer and baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning.
6When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they both looked upset.
7Why do you look so worried today?' he asked them.
9So the chief cup-bearer told Joseph his dream first. 'In my dream,' he said, 'I saw a grapevine in front of me.
10The vine had three branches that began to bud and blossom, and soon it produced clusters of ripe grapes.
11I was holding Pharaoh’s wine cup in my hand, so I took a cluster of grapes and squeezed the juice into the cup. Then I placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.'
12This is what the dream means,' Joseph said. 'The three branches represent three days.
13Within three days Pharaoh will lift you up and restore you to your position as his chief cup-bearer.
14And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place.
15For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I’m here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it.'
16When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given the first dream such a positive interpretation, he said to Joseph, 'I had a dream, too. In my dream there were three baskets of white pastries stacked on my head.
17The top basket contained all kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, but the birds came and ate them from the basket on my head.'

5And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.
6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled.
7So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, “Why are your faces downcast today?”
8They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream there was a vine before me,
10and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes.
11Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
12Then Joseph said to him, “This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days.
13In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer.
14Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.
15For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.”

4The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them. After they had been in custody for some time, 5each of the two men--the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison--had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.
6When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
7So he asked Pharaoh's officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why do you look so sad today?'
9So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, 'In my dream I saw a vine in front of me,
10and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup and put the cup in his hand.'
12This is what it means,' Joseph said to him. 'The three branches are three days.
13Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.
14But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.
15I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.'
