Chapter 40
1Then it came about after these things, that the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt. 2And Pharaoh was furious with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. 3So he put them in confinement in the house of the captain of the bodyguard, in the prison, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned. 4And the captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he took care of them; and they were in confinement for some time. 5Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation. 6When Joseph came to them in the morning and saw them, behold, they were dejected. 7So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, 'Why are your faces so sad today?' 8And they said to him, 'We have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it.' Then Joseph said to them, 'Do interpretations not belong to God? Tell it to me, please.'
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, saying to him, 'In my dream, behold, there was a vine in front of me;
10and on the vine were three branches. And as it was budding, its blossoms came out, and its clusters produced ripe grapes.
11Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.'
12Then Joseph said to him, 'This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;
13within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand as in your former practice when you were his cupbearer.
14Only keep me in mind when it goes well for you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.
15For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon.'

1And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt. 2And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. 3And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. 4And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward. 5And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison. 6And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. 7And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? 8And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
12And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

1After this, the king of Egypt’s cupbearer and baker offended their master, the king of Egypt. 2Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, 3and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guards in the prison where Joseph was confined. 4The captain of the guards assigned Joseph to them as their personal attendant, and they were in custody for some time.
5The king of Egypt’s cupbearer and baker, who were confined in the prison, each had a dream. Both had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked distraught.
7So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were in custody with him in his master’s house, "Why do you look so sad today?"
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph: "In my dream there was a vine in front of me.
10On the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms came out and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand."
12"This is its interpretation," Joseph said to him. "The three branches are three days.
13In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand the way you used to when you were his cupbearer.
14But when all goes well for you, remember that I was with you. Please show kindness to me by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.
15For I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should put me in the dungeon."

Chapter 40
1Some time later, Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer and chief baker offended their royal master. 2Pharaoh became angry with these two officials, 3and he put them in the prison where Joseph was, in the palace of the captain of the guard. 4They remained in prison for quite some time, and the captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, who looked after them.
5While they were in prison, Pharaoh’s cup-bearer and baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning.
6When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they both looked upset.
7Why do you look so worried today?' he asked them.
9So the chief cup-bearer told Joseph his dream first. 'In my dream,' he said, 'I saw a grapevine in front of me.
10The vine had three branches that began to bud and blossom, and soon it produced clusters of ripe grapes.
11I was holding Pharaoh’s wine cup in my hand, so I took a cluster of grapes and squeezed the juice into the cup. Then I placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.'
12This is what the dream means,' Joseph said. 'The three branches represent three days.
13Within three days Pharaoh will lift you up and restore you to your position as his chief cup-bearer.
14And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place.
15For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I’m here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it.'

1Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. 2And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, 3and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined. 4The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody.
5And one night they both dreamed — the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison — each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.
6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled.
7So he asked Pharaoh 's officers who were with him in custody in his master 's house, "Why are your faces downcast today?"
8They said to him, "We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them." And Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me."
9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, "In my dream there was a vine before me,
10and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes.
11Pharaoh 's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh 's cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh 's hand."
12Then Joseph said to him, "This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days.

14Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.
