Chapter 3

6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband with her, and he ate. 7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waist coverings.
8Now they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, 'Where are you?' 10He said, 'I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.' 11And He said, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?' 12The man said, 'The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me some of the fruit of the tree, and I ate.'

8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"
10And he said, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid."
11Then he asked, "Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
12The man replied, "The woman you gave to be with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate."

6The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
8When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. 9Then the Lord God called to the man, 'Where are you?'
10He replied, 'I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.'
11Who told you that you were naked?' the Lord God asked. 'Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?'
12The man replied, 'It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.'
