Genesis 3:3-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
3
but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’?'
4
The serpent said to the woman, 'You certainly will not die!
5
For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil.'
6
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make
one
wise, she took some of its fruit and ate; and she also gave
some
to her husband with her, and he ate.
7
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waist coverings.
8
Now they heard the sound of the
Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the
Lord
God among the trees of the garden.
9
Then the
Lord
God called to the man, and said to him, 'Where are you?'
King James Version
Chapter 3
3
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8
And they heard the voice of the
Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the
Lord
God amongst the trees of the garden.
9
And the
Lord
God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Chapter 3
3
But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’"
4
"No! You will not die," the serpent said to the woman.
5
"In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
6
The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the
Lord
God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid from the
Lord
God among the trees of the garden.
9
So the
Lord
God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
3
It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’'
4
You won’t die!' the serpent replied to the woman.
5
God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.'
6
The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.
7
At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
8
When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the
Lord
God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the
Lord
God among the trees.
9
Then the
Lord
God called to the man, 'Where are you?'
