Genesis 3:18-23
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
18
Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
Yet you shall eat the plants of the field;
19
By the sweat of your face
You shall eat bread,
Until you return to the ground,
Because from it you were taken;
For you are dust,
And to dust you shall return.'
20
Now the man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all
the
living.
21
And the
Lord
God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
22
Then the
Lord
God said, 'Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out with his hand, and take
fruit
also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever'—
23
therefore the
Lord
God sent him out of the Garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.
King James Version
Chapter 3
18
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the
Lord
God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22
And the
Lord
God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23
Therefore the
Lord
God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 3
18
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19
You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow
until you return to the ground,
since you were taken from it.
For you are dust,
and you will return to dust."
20
The man named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living.
21
The
Lord
God made clothing from skins for the man and his wife, and he clothed them.
22
The
Lord
God said, "Since the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil, he must not reach out, take from the tree of life, eat, and live forever."
23
So the
Lord
God sent him away from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
18
It will grow thorns and thistles for you,
though you will eat of its grains.
19
By the sweat of your brow
will you have food to eat
until you return to the ground
from which you were made.
For you were made from dust,
and to dust you will return.'
20
Then the man — Adam — named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.
21
And the
Lord
God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
22
Then the
Lord
God said, 'Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!'
23
So the
Lord
God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
