7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? 9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon. 10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

Chapter 15

6 And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.
7 Then the LORD told him, 'I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.'
8 But Abram replied, 'O Sovereign LORD, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?'
9 The LORD told him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.' 10 So Abram presented all these to him and killed them. Then he cut each animal down the middle and laid the halves side by side; he did not, however, cut the birds in half.
