Genesis 15:1-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
1
After these things the word of the
Lord
came to Abram in a vision, saying,
'Do not fear, Abram,
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.'
2
But Abram said, 'Lord
God
, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?'
3
Abram also said, 'Since You have given me no son, one who has been born in my house is my heir.'
4
Then behold, the word of the
Lord
came to him, saying, 'This man will not be your heir; but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.'
5
And He took him outside and said, 'Now look toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.' And He said to him, 'So shall your descendants be.'
6
Then he believed in the
Lord
; and He credited it to him as righteousness.
7
And He said to him, 'I am the
Lord
who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it.'
King James Version
Chapter 15
1
After these things the word of the
Lord
came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2
And Abram said, Lord
God
, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3
And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4
And, behold, the word of the
Lord
came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5
And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6
And he believed in the
Lord
; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7
And he said unto him, I am the
Lord
that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 15
1
After these events, the word of the
Lord
came to Abram in a vision:
Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield;
your reward will be very great.
2
But Abram said, "Lord
God
, what can you give me, since I am childless and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"
3
Abram continued, "Look, you have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house will be my heir."
4
Now the word of the
Lord
came to him: "This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir."
5
He took him outside and said, "Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then he said to him, "Your offspring will be that numerous."
6
Abram believed the
Lord
, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
7
He also said to him, "I am the
Lord
who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess."
New Living Translation
Chapter 15
1
Some time later, the
Lord
spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, 'Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.'
2
But Abram replied, 'O Sovereign
Lord
, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth.
3
You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.'
4
Then the
Lord
said to him, 'No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.'
5
Then the
Lord
took Abram outside and said to him, 'Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!'
6
And Abram believed the
Lord
, and the
Lord
counted him as righteous because of his faith.
7
Then the
Lord
told him, 'I am the
Lord
who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.'
