Chapter 22

1Brothers and fathers, hear my defense which I now offer to you.'
2And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew dialect, they became even more quiet; and he *said,
3I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the Law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today.

1Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you. 2And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) 3I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

Chapter 22

1Brothers and esteemed fathers,' Paul said, 'listen to me as I offer my defense.' 2When they heard him speaking in their own language, the silence was even greater.
3Then Paul said, 'I am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, and I was brought up and educated here in Jerusalem under Gamaliel. As his student, I was carefully trained in our Jewish laws and customs. I became very zealous to honor God in everything I did, just like all of you today.
