12Now the sons of Eli were useless men; they did not know the LORD.
13And this was the custom of the priests with the people: when anyone was offering a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come while the meat was cooking, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
14And he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; everything that the fork brought up, the priest would take for himself. They did so in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
15Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, 'Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take cooked meat from you, only raw.'
16And if the man said to him, 'They must burn the fat first, then take as much as you desire,' then he would say, 'No, but you must give it to me now; and if not, I am taking it by force!'
17And so the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for the men treated the offering of the LORD disrespectfully.
18Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.
19And his mother would make for him a little robe and bring it up to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, 'May the LORD give you children from this woman in place of the one she requested of the LORD.' And they went to their own home.
22Now Eli was very old; and he heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel, and that they slept with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.
23So he said to them, 'Why are you doing such things as these, the evil things that I hear from all these people?
24No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the LORD’S people circulating.
25If one person sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a person sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?' But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the LORD desired to put them to death.
27Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what the LORD says: ‘Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?
28Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me? And did I not give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?
29Why are you showing contempt for My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded for My dwelling, and why are you honoring your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?’
30Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father was to walk before Me forever’; but now the LORD declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be insignificant.
31Behold, the days are coming when I will eliminate your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.
32And you will look at the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel; and there will never be an old man in your house.
33Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar, so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.
34And this will be the sign to you which will come in regard to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on the same day both of them will die.
35But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.

11And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
12Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.
13And the priests' custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
14And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
16And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
17Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
18But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
19Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.
21And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.
22Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
23And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
24Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD'S people to transgress.
25If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
26And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.
27And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
28And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
29Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
30Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
31Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.
32And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
33And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
34And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
35And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

12Eli's sons were wicked men; they did not respect the Lord
13or the priests' share of the sacrifices from the people. When anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling
14and plunge it into the container, kettle, cauldron, or cooking pot. The priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is the way they treated all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
15Even before the fat was burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the one who was sacrificing, "Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won't accept boiled meat from you--only raw."
16If that person said to him, "The fat must be burned first; then you can take whatever you want for yourself," the servant would reply, "No, I insist that you hand it over right now. If you don't, I'll take it by force! "
17So the servants' sin was very severe in the presence of the Lord, because the men treated the Lord's offering with contempt.
18Samuel served in the Lord's presence--this mere boy was dressed in the linen ephod.
19Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.
20Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife: "May the Lord give you children by this woman in place of the one she has given to the Lord." Then they would go home.
22Now Eli was very old. He heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
23He said to them, "Why are you doing these things? I have heard about your evil actions from all these people.
24No, my sons, the news I hear the Lord's people spreading is not good.
25If one person sins against another, God can intercede for him, but if a person sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him? " But they would not listen to their father, since the Lord intended to kill them.
26By contrast, the boy Samuel grew in stature and in favor with the Lord and with people.
27A man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the Lord says: 'Didn't I reveal myself to your forefather's family when they were in Egypt and belonged to Pharaoh's palace?
28Out of all the tribes of Israel, I chose your house to be my priests, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I also gave your forefather's family all the Israelite food offerings.
29Why, then, do all of you despise my sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship? You have honored your sons more than me, by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of my people Israel.'
30"Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel: 'I did say that your family and your forefather's family would walk before me forever. But now,' this is the Lord's declaration, 'no longer! For those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disgraced.
31Look, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your forefather's family, so that none in your family will reach old age.
32You will see distress in the place of worship, in spite of all that is good in Israel, and no one in your family will ever again reach old age.
33Any man from your family I do not cut off from my altar will bring grief and sadness to you. All your descendants will die violently.
34This will be the sign that will come to you concerning your two sons Hophni and Phinehas: both of them will die on the same day.

12Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the LORD
13or for their duties as priests. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, Eli's sons would send over a servant with a three-pronged fork. While the meat of the sacrificed animal was still boiling,
14the servant would stick the fork into the pot and demand that whatever it brought up be given to Eli's sons. All the Israelites who came to worship at Shiloh were treated this way.
15Sometimes the servant would come even before the animal's fat had been burned on the altar. He would demand raw meat before it had been boiled so that it could be used for roasting.
16The man offering the sacrifice might reply, 'Take as much as you want, but the fat must be burned first.' Then the servant would demand, 'No, give it to me now, or I'll take it by force.'
17So the sin of these young men was very serious in the LORD's sight, for they treated the LORD's offerings with contempt.
18But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the LORD. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest.
19Each year his mother made a small coat for him and brought it to him when she came with her husband for the sacrifice.
20Before they returned home, Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May the LORD give you other children to take the place of this one she gave to the LORD.'
21And the LORD gave Hannah three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.
22Now Eli was very old, but he was aware of what his sons were doing to the people of Israel. He knew, for instance, that his sons were seducing the young women who assisted at the entrance of the Tabernacle.
23Eli said to them, 'I have been hearing reports from all the people about the wicked things you are doing. Why do you keep sinning?
24You must stop, my sons! The reports I hear among the LORD's people are not good.
25If someone sins against another person, God can mediate for the guilty party. But if someone sins against the LORD, who can intercede?' But Eli's sons wouldn't listen to their father, for the LORD was already planning to put them to death.
27One day a man of God came to Eli and gave him this message from the LORD: 'I revealed myself to your ancestors when the people of Israel were slaves in Egypt.
28I chose your ancestor Aaron from among all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear the priestly vest as he served me. And I assigned the sacrificial offerings to you priests.
29So why do you scorn my sacrifices and offerings? Why do you give your sons more honor than you give me--for you and they have become fat from the best offerings of my people Israel!
30'Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I promised that your branch of the tribe of Levi would always be my priests. But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.
31The time is coming when I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will reach old age.
32You will watch with envy as I pour out prosperity on the people of Israel. But no members of your family will ever live out their days.
33Those who survive will live in sadness and grief, and their children will die a violent death.
34And to prove that what I have said will come true, I will cause your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, to die on the same day!

10The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.” 11Then Elkanah went home to Ramah. And the boy was ministering to the LORD in the presence of Eli the priest.
12Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the LORD.

29Why then do you scorn my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’
30Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

29Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?'
30Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.
31The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age,
32and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.
33Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.
34'And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you--they will both die on the same day.
35I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always.

28‘¿No los escogí de entre todas las tribus (la de Leví) de Israel para ser Mis sacerdotes, para subir a Mi altar, para quemar incienso, para llevar un efod delante de Mí? ¿No le di a la casa de tu padre todas las ofrendas encendidas de los Israelitas?
29‘¿Por qué pisotean Mi sacrificio y Mi ofrenda que he ordenado en Mi morada, y honras a tus hijos más que a Mí, engordándose ustedes con lo mejor de cada ofrenda de Mi pueblo Israel?’
30Por tanto, el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, declara: ‘Ciertamente Yo había dicho que tu casa y la casa de tu padre andarían delante de Mí para siempre;’ pero ahora el SEÑOR declara: ‘Lejos esté esto de Mí, porque Yo honraré a los que Me honran, y los que Me desprecian serán tenidos en poco.
31Por tanto, vienen días cuando cortaré tu fuerza, y la fuerza de la casa de tu padre, y no habrá anciano en tu casa.
32Y verás la angustia de Mi morada, a pesar de todo el bien que hago a Israel; y nunca habrá anciano en tu casa.
33Sin embargo, a algunos de los tuyos no cortaré de Mi altar para que tus ojos se consuman llorando y tu alma sufra; pero todos los nacidos en tu casa morirán en la flor de la juventud.
34Y para ti, ésta será la señal que vendrá en cuanto a tus dos hijos, Ofni y Finees: en el mismo día morirán los dos.
35Pero levantaré para Mí un sacerdote fiel que hará conforme a los deseos de Mi corazón y de Mi alma; y le edificaré una casa duradera, y él andará siempre delante de Mi ungido.

12Los hijos de Elí eran unos perversos que no tomaban en cuenta al SEÑOR.
13La costumbre de estos sacerdotes era la siguiente: Cuando alguien ofrecía un sacrificio, el asistente del sacerdote se presentaba con un tenedor grande en la mano y, mientras se cocía la carne,
14metía el tenedor en la olla, en el caldero, en la cacerola o en la cazuela; y el sacerdote tomaba para sí mismo todo lo que se enganchaba en el tenedor. De este modo trataban a todos los israelitas que iban a Siló.
15Además, antes de quemarse la grasa, solía llegar el ayudante del sacerdote para decirle al que estaba por ofrecer el sacrificio: «Dame carne para el asado del sacerdote, pues no te la va a aceptar cocida, sino cruda».
16Y, si el hombre contestaba: «Espera a que se queme la grasa, como es debido; luego podrás tomar lo que desees», el asistente replicaba: «No, dámela ahora mismo; de lo contrario, te la quito por la fuerza».
17Así que el pecado de estos jóvenes era gravísimo a los ojos del SEÑOR, pues trataban con desprecio las ofrendas que le pertenecían.
18El niño Samuel, por su parte, vestido con un efod de lino, seguía sirviendo en la presencia del SEÑOR.
19Cada año su madre le hacía una pequeña túnica, y se la llevaba cuando iba con su esposo para ofrecer su sacrificio anual.
20Elí entonces bendecía a Elcaná y a su esposa, diciendo: «Que el SEÑOR te conceda hijos de esta mujer, a cambio del niño que ella pidió para dedicárselo al SEÑOR». Luego regresaban a su casa.
22Elí, que ya era muy anciano, se enteró de todo lo que sus hijos le estaban haciendo al pueblo de Israel, incluso de que se acostaban con las mujeres que servían a la entrada del santuario.
23Les dijo: «¿Por qué se comportan así? Todo el pueblo me habla de su mala conducta.
24No, hijos míos; no es nada bueno lo que se comenta en el pueblo del SEÑOR.
25Si alguien peca contra otra persona, Dios le servirá de árbitro; pero si peca contra el SEÑOR, ¿quién podrá interceder por él?» No obstante, ellos no le hicieron caso a la advertencia de su padre, pues la voluntad del SEÑOR era quitarles la vida.
27Un hombre de Dios fue a ver a Elí, y le dijo: «Así dice el SEÑOR: “Bien sabes que yo me manifesté a tus antepasados cuando estaban en Egipto bajo el poder del faraón.
28De entre todas las tribus de Israel, escogí a Aarón para que fuera mi sacerdote, es decir, para que en mi presencia se acercara a mi altar, quemara el incienso y se pusiera el efod. Además, a su familia le concedí las ofrendas que los israelitas queman en mi honor.
29¿Por qué, pues, tratan ustedes con tanto desprecio los sacrificios y ofrendas que yo he ordenado que me traigan? ¿Por qué honras a tus hijos más que a mí, y los engordas con lo mejor de todas las ofrendas de mi pueblo Israel?”
30»Por lo tanto —dice el SEÑOR—, de ninguna manera permitiré que tus parientes me sirvan, aun cuando yo había prometido que toda tu familia, tanto tus antepasados como tus descendientes, me servirían siempre. Yo, el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, lo afirmo. Yo honro a los que me honran, y humillo a los que me desprecian.
31En efecto, se acerca el día en que acabaré con tu poder y con el de tu familia; ninguno de tus descendientes llegará a viejo.
32Mirarás con envidia el bien que se le hará a Israel, y ninguno de tus descendientes llegará a viejo.
33Si permito que alguno de los tuyos continúe sirviendo en mi altar, será para arruinarte la vista y abatirte la vida; todos tus descendientes morirán en la flor de la vida.
34Y te doy esta señal: tus dos hijos, Ofni y Finés, morirán el mismo día.

12Los hijos de Elí eran hombres impíos, y no tenían conocimiento de Jehová.
13Y era costumbre de los sacerdotes con el pueblo, que cuando alguno ofrecía sacrificio, venía el criado del sacerdote mientras se cocía la carne, trayendo en su mano un garfio de tres dientes,
14y lo metía en el perol, en la olla, en el caldero o en la marmita; y todo lo que sacaba el garfio, el sacerdote lo tomaba para sí. De esta manera hacían con todo israelita que venía a Silo.
15Asimismo, antes de quemar la grosura, venía el criado del sacerdote, y decía al que sacrificaba: Da carne que asar para el sacerdote; porque no tomará de ti carne cocida, sino cruda.
16Y si el hombre le respondía: Quemen la grosura primero, y después toma tanto como quieras; él respondía: No, sino dámela ahora mismo; de otra manera yo la tomaré por la fuerza.
17Era, pues, muy grande delante de Jehová el pecado de los jóvenes; porque los hombres menospreciaban las ofrendas de Jehová.

23Y les dijo: ¿Por qué hacéis cosas semejantes? Porque yo oigo de todo este pueblo vuestros malos procederes.
24No, hijos míos, porque no es buena fama la que yo oigo; pues hacéis pecar al pueblo de Jehová.
25Si pecare el hombre contra el hombre, los jueces le juzgarán; mas si alguno pecare contra Jehová, ¿quién rogará por él? Pero ellos no oyeron la voz de su padre, porque Jehová había resuelto hacerlos morir.
27Y vino un varón de Dios a Elí, y le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿No me manifesté yo claramente a la casa de tu padre, cuando estaban en Egipto en casa de Faraón?

10SEÑOR, serán quebrantados sus adversarios; y sobre ellos tronará desde los cielos. El SEÑOR juzgará los términos de la tierra, y dará fortaleza a su Rey, y ensalzará el cuerno de su Mesías. 11Y Elcana se volvió a su casa en Ramá; y el niño ministraba al SEÑOR delante del sacerdote Elí.
12Mas los hijos de Elí eran hijos de Belial, y no tenían conocimiento del SEÑOR.

23Y les dijo: ¿Por qué hacéis cosas semejantes? Porque yo oigo de todo este pueblo vuestros malos procederes.

35Y yo me despertaré un sacerdote fiel, que haga conforme a mi corazón y a mi alma; y yo le edificaré casa firme, y él andará delante de mi Ungido todo los días.
