14
Then he said, 'I have something
to say
to you.' And she said, 'Speak.'
15
So he said, 'You yourself know that the kingdom was mine and that all Israel intended for me to be king; however, the kingdom has turned around and become my brother’s, for it was his from the
Lord
.
16
So now I am making one request of you; do not refuse me.' And she said to him, 'Speak.'
King James Version
Chapter 2
14
He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.
15
And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the
Lord
.
16
And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 2
14
and then asked, "May I talk with you?" "Go ahead," she answered.
15
"You know the kingship was mine," he said. "All Israel expected me to be king, but then the kingship was turned over to my brother, for the
Lord
gave it to him.
16
So now I have just one request of you; don’t turn me down." She said to him, "Go on."
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
14
In fact, I have a favor to ask of you.' 'What is it?' she asked.
15
He replied, 'As you know, the kingdom was rightfully mine; all Israel wanted me to be the next king. But the tables were turned, and the kingdom went to my brother instead; for that is the way the
Lord
wanted it.
16
So now I have just one favor to ask of you. Please don’t turn me down.' 'What is it?' she asked.
