1 Corinthians 11:6-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
6For if a woman does not cover her head, have her also cut her hair off; however, if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, have her cover her head. 7For a man should not have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; 9for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. 10Therefore the woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11However, in the Lord, neither is woman independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12For as the woman originated from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and all things originate from God. 13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does even nature itself not teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her as a covering. 16But if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor have the churches of God.King James Version
Chapter 11
6For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.Christian Standard Bible
7A man should not cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. So too, woman is the glory of man.
8For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man.
9Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man.
10This is why a woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.
11In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman.
12For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, and all things come from God.
13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
14Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him,
15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her as a covering.
16If anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, nor do the churches of God.
New Living Translation
7A man should not wear anything on his head when worshiping, for man is made in God's image and reflects God's glory. And woman reflects man's glory.
8For the first man didn't come from woman, but the first woman came from man.
9And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.
10For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority.
11But among the Lord's people, women are not independent of men, and men are not independent of women.
12For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything comes from God.
13Judge for yourselves. Is it right for a woman to pray to God in public without covering her head?
14Isn't it obvious that it's disgraceful for a man to have long hair?
15And isn't long hair a woman's pride and joy? For it has been given to her as a covering.
16But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God's other churches.
English Standard Version
Chapter 11
6For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. 7For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. 8For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; 12for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. 13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.New International Version
7A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.
8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;
9neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
10It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels.
11Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
12For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
16If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God.
