Ruth 1:11-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi said, 'Return, my daughters. Why should you go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12
Return, my daughters! Go, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said I have hope, if I were even to have a husband tonight and also give birth to sons,
13
would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters; for it is much more bitter for me than for you, because the hand of the
Lord
has come out against me.'
King James Version
Chapter 1
11
And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12
Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
13
Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the
Lord
is gone out against me.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi replied, "Return home, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Am I able to have any more sons who could become your husbands?
12
Return home, my daughters. Go on, for I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me to have a husband tonight and to bear sons,
13
would you be willing to wait for them to grow up? Would you restrain yourselves from remarrying? No, my daughters, my life is much too bitter for you to share, because the
Lord
’s hand has turned against me."
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi replied, 'Why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other sons who could grow up to be your husbands?
12
No, my daughters, return to your parents’ homes, for I am too old to marry again. And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what?
13
Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? No, of course not, my daughters! Things are far more bitter for me than for you, because the
Lord
himself has raised his fist against me.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi said, "Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb that they may become your husbands?
12
Turn back, my daughters; go your way, for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, even if I should have a husband this night and should bear sons,
13
would you therefore wait till they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters, for it is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that the hand of the
Lord
has gone out against me."
New International Version
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi said, "Return home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands?
12
Return home, my daughters; I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me—even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons—
13
would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried for them? No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the
Lord
’s hand has turned against me!"
New King James Version
Chapter 1
11
But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me?
Are
there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12
Turn back, my daughters, go—for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope,
if
I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons,
13
would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the
Lord
has gone out against me!”
