Matthew 3:13-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
13
Then Jesus *arrived from Galilee at the Jordan,
coming
to John to be baptized by him.
14
But John tried to prevent Him, saying, 'I have
the
need to be baptized by You, and
yet
You are coming to me?'
15
But Jesus, answering, said to him, 'Allow
it
at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he *allowed Him.
16
After He was baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove
and
settling on Him,
17
and behold, a voice from the heavens said, 'This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'
King James Version
Chapter 3
13
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Christian Standard Bible

13
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.
14
But John tried to stop him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?"
15
Jesus answered him, "Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then John allowed him to be baptized.
16
When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him.
17
And a voice from heaven said: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased."
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
13
Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John.
14
But John tried to talk him out of it. 'I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,' he said, 'so why are you coming to me?'
15
But Jesus said, 'It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires. ' So John agreed to baptize him.
16
After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.
17
And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.'

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;
